Lovely persimmons from Togane
I was very pleased to receive a big box full of persimmons yesterday. Thanks to Mr. Takamiya, my students, peers and I are going to be eating excellent fruit with lots of vitamin C for a while. Thank you, Takamiya-san!

JIU held a wonderful event on October 31: Setsuko's Secret: Heart Mountain and the Legacy of the Japanese American Incarceration. Author Shirley Higuchi and incarceree Sam Mihara participated in the Q & A Session and answered about 20 questions from the audience. Guaraná at JIU on Halloween
The JIU Festival was canceled, but we were able to have some guaraná together on Saturday, October 31.
JIU Festival 2020
Unfortunately the JIU Festival this year was canceled because of the situation regarding the corona virus. According to the academic schedule, November 2 was going to be the clean-up day and therefore all classes were canceled. I am here today and the campus is very quiet. Fortunately some students showed up and my office looks very lively now.

What you don't have and don't want to have in Brazil: earthquakes
Last week the alarm went off at 4:46 AM and scared us all! There was a long earthquake a few seconds after the alarm, but what scared us more was the loud noise of the alarm. It was impossible to fall asleep after that. When I got to my office, I found out my airplane was broken.
