Dinner with PhD Candidates

We had a lovely soba meal with the PhD candidates from Dalian, China on Friday. They teach Japanese at their universities and are enrolled in our doctorate program here at JIU. They come to Chiba every summer in order to take some intensive courses. It's amazing how they manage their teaching jobs, their family and also their studies so well.

Long time no see, Megumi

Tuesday (July 16) was a special day in the sense that some former students visited. Coincidentally Mitsugu, Kensuke and Megumi visited the same day. She is working in Australia and is in Japan for a short time. Kensuke and Mitsugu are teaching Japanese at universities in China.

Back in Japan despite this and that

Our last two days in Hong Kong were very intense with students preparing and giving presentations and with students getting sick. I "got an ambulance ride" for the very first time and it was not thrilling!! We all managed to fly back together last Sunday though.

Lectures and language classes in Hong Kong

Tuesday was the first day of lectures and English activities for us. Dr. Richard Sheung gave a talk on the English education system in Hong Kong. It was a good opportunity for our students to reflect on the identity issues and historical facts about the educational system here.
