I was puzzled when I was told earlier today that a person I don't know was trying to find my name and phone number. They wanted to know if it was OK to give out that kind of personal information. Looking confused this gentleman informed me that this young woman had told him that "her car door left a dent on my car." She wanted to apologize. Wow. I thought my new car was getting its third "mark" today and ran downstairs to check. Yes, I did find what I didn't want to see, but the woman was very apologetic and so honest. We talked and I told her to have her insurance company call me. They did, and two hours later she came to my door with a box of cookies and a letter of apology.
Unfortunately Professor Suresht Bald will be leaving Japan tomorrow. She taught the course "Women in Asia" this year and we hope she'll be teaching next year as well. She and Sunil came over for dinner. I wasn't able to prepare any exciting Brazilian food, but we had a good time and I certainly hope to see them both again here in Chiba in the near future.
